Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does a professional water damage restoration contractor do differently than I would do to dry water damage?
SBKrestorations would extract the water, and contain the affected area. We would remove any non-salvageable damaged materials. Photograph and document every damaged area and all damaged items. A anti-microbial solution would be applied to the affected areas. The common shop vac and household fans just aren’t designed to remove enough moisture or generate enough air movement to dry your home or office efficiently. We use specialized, high-speed, industrial air movers, and dehumidifiers. The air movers are set up to create the most efficient drying system for your property. While the equipment removes and controls the humidity and moisture levels in the air, we monitor the progress on a daily basis with specialized meters to measure the moisture. During this process we take notes which are provided to the insurance company. Finally, we communicate with your insurance company all the way through to make the process smooth and easy.

How does SBKrestorations determine the category of water?
According to the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), there
are three categories of water. During our assessment of the damage, we will determine the
category of water.
1. Category 1: Originates from a sanitary water source and does not pose a risk.
2. Category 2: Contains significant contamination and has the potential to cause discomfort
or illness if consumed by humans.
3. Category 3: Grossly contaminated and can contain pathogenic, toxigenic, and other
harmful agents.

How long will the drying process take to dry my home or business?
SBKrestorations understands that homeowners and business owners want things back to normal as quick as possible, but our job is to get everything back to pre loss conditions. I would expect for the drying process to take approximately 4-5 days (but could take longer). With that being said there are many factors to take into consideration.

How much does water damage cost?
This depends on the scope of the project. Our evaluation will explain the overall costs and their justifications. Most of the time, you will be responsible for the deductible only, as most property insurance policies include flood damage. However, the cost of the project will vary, which is why our professionals communicate clearly.

What should I do after a flood, sewage, or water leak?
Firstly, contact a water damage restoration company as soon as possible. Don’t wait as water can cause mold and irremediable damage to the wood, walls, and carpet in your home. Afterwards, contact your insurance company to start the claim process. If safe, shut off the utilities in your home to avoid further damage. Don’t enter your home if it has suffered structural damage. Don’t walk through flood water if electricity hasn’t been turned off and to avoid contamination.
